A-League Soccer: Melbourne Victory vs Sydney at Melbourne Telstra Dome

Well today I attended my first soccer match at the Melbourne Telstra Dome, I almost felt like Drew Carey from his Sporting Adventures, its really a different experience when your a photographer right there on the field, you almost feel that you are apart of the game itself.

Well I received the A-league pass in the mail from Goal Weekly who I shoot for on Thursday and then there was just the wait from then till Saturday night when I would attend the game. I thought leaving at 5pm from work would have me arriving before the crowds however I was wrong, by the time I had arrived at least 1000+ fans had already hit the stadium, with even more inside.

After flashing my pass I was cleared through the initial gates, and then I was up for the long trek to the Media room which was within the inner limits of Telstra dome. After signing in and obtaining my “photographers bib” I then proceeded on field. For a first time photographer attending something like this it can be somewhat daunting to say the least, however I soon met up with another photographer and after a 5min spiel I was told were you can and cannot go, and so I stayed within the limits that I had, usually the best thing when you are a first timer.

The game was intense and the crowd was really something, the noise of the crowd was so loud that a person only a metre away from me was not able to hear anything I said to them, so in the end we just resorted to sign language and raising of hands or eyebrows. The air was electric, I can only fathom what it would have been like for world cup soccer.

Alas the game fell to Sydney with them scoring two goals, unfortunately Melbourne had some superb opportunities however failed to bring them to fruition which left the game to be won by Sydney.
